Seek Your Own Proof Featured in the NY Times!

Ken Bautista sends us word that the NY Times has featured his game, the locally developed Seek Your Own Proof, in an article in their Sunday edition of their paper (http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/18/making-museums-fun-for-all/) discussing how the Discovery Channel is trying to help make museums more fun for everyone by converging games with history and learning.

Bioware’s Zeschuk calls AAA development ‘a poor goal’ For Studio Culture

Gamasutra has posted an article on Bioware’s Zeschuk thoughts on the goal of AAA game development and studio culture from his keynote speech at the Develop game developer conference that is currently taking place in the UK. Instead of focusing on simply becoming a AAA game developer the studio head recommends that you develop a studio culture instead that reflect’s your teams current goals and games.

Animation Week at the AGA

We almost missed posting news about the fact that in celebration of the Warner Bros animation exhibit at the Art Gallery of Alberta, that the AGA is holding animation week, this very week (http://www.youraga.ca/programs-events/animation-week-at-the-aga/)!

Indie Fund looking for “unique” games

The Indie fund started by Jonathan Blow, Kellee Santiago and the 2D Boy founders is looking for unique games to throw some money at. You can now apply on their site. It would be great to see some cool ideas from Edmonton getting funding. The budgets are most likely under $200,000US, but that’s still a fair amount for a small, but exciting title. We ran into a few unfortunate circumstances that prevented us from holding a June GamePub event, so we hope that everyone is eagerly anticipating the July 2010 GamePub event!
If you are new to GameCamp Edmonton and/or have never heard about Gamepub Talk, Q&As and Beers, it is a monthly event that we organize to gather the various game developers that are in Edmonton & area. Its an opportunity for everyone to come together to network with peers, check out some great product demonstrations, technical talks and of course get away from the computer for some great food and drink at a fantastic local venue!
